Learning Communities & Communities of Practice

Learning Communities & Communities of Practice

We have a range of Faculty Learning Communities and Communities of Practice that address everything from Writing Accountability, to Assignment Design, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, and Research Productivity & Grant Writing.

Our Faculty Associates and Ambassadors facilitate two kinds of communities: Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) and Communities of Practice (CoP).

Here at SCU we understand FLCs to be spaces where faculty can gain skills in new areas whether pedagogically or research oriented. These groups are generally comprised of 5-15 faculty members and meet on a regular cadence throughout the term. CoPs, meanwhile, provide structure and accountability for faculty already proficient in a given area.

AI-Aware Community of Practice

Beginning in Winter 2027 a Community of Practice centered on Inclusive & AI-Aware Assignment Design will be launching. The goal of this CoP is supporting participants in creating assignments that are valid measures of student learning in the context of AI.
